Welcome to the Nappy Exchange

Thinking about using washable nappies but don't know where to start?

Confused by the range of products on offer? Don't know where to buy them?

Don't know if you'll like them and want to try before you buy?

Want to buy secondhand with confidence?

Then you've come to the right place....

~~~
Things have moved on since the days of folding terry squares into stiff plastic pants, and the recent revival of the washable nappy has resulted in an explosion of new designs, most of which are only available online. Whilst a very welcome development, this makes buying nappies for the first time confusing at best and expensive if you make the wrong choice.
Whether you're choosing to save the environment or money (or both), help is at hand - the Nappy Exchange offers information and practical advice in all aspects of choosing, buying, using and caring for washable nappies from birth to potty.
Who are we?
I am a mum of three who had to learn about washable nappies by trial and error - and sadly that meant a lot of trials, many of which were errors. I did get some advice on what to buy whilst I was pregnant the first time and selected a variety of birth-to-potty styles (viewed only online) which I believed offered an economical long term solution. Then my daughter arrived at just over 6lbs …..out came the lovingly pre-washed (3 times) nappies….with somewhat comical results. To say they were too large would be an understatement, she actually fitted completely inside one of the pocket types! I ended up using disposables for a couple of months at least whilst trying several more brands and styles before finding what suited us.
So when preparing for the birth of my second child, I got out the gorgeous little newborn sized nappies that I had acquired from a friend with matching dinky wraps etc. Then my first boy came along at a somewhat heftier 9lbs and wore them for two weeks before needing the next size up. Within three months both babes were wearing the same size ….......I think you’re probably getting the picture……
In the meantime I was receiving a lot of interest and questions when changing my babes in public and in the summer when they were going ‘nappy out’. I began lending out items from my own (now extensive) nappy collection and helping source nappies for other mums as there are no local stockists. I then started making my own nappies and accessories, which proved popular so I decided to sell them and many of the leading brands as well as accessories and consumables such as fleece and flushable liners, waterproof bags and buckets!
Why the Nappy ‘Exchange‘?
I don’t believe in throwing anything away until it it’s rendered entirely useless (just ask my husband about the contents of our attic). Modern washable nappies are very well made and should last for several babies if well cared for. So you can save even more money by buying secondhand. It also makes sense to sell them on and recoup some of your money once you‘ve completed your brood. Having had some real bargains and also some disappointments myself, I now take the uncertainty out of buying secondhand by only selling excellent quality items and guaranteeing them.
